PROJECT DETAILS

The residential building at 520 West 28th Street in New York City, also known as the Zaha Hadid Building, was her only residential building in New York and one of her last projects before her passing. The duplex penthouse suite features a custom spiral staircase spanning three stories with a handrailing designed as a monolithic ribbon-like form.

Design, development, engineering and fabrication of a 3 storey feature staircase complete with modular pre-fabricated millwork balustrade and custom glazing, Finished with multi-part pearlescent finish. With only a preliminary design provided by the client, this project involved an in-depth digital coordination and approval stage. Site work was verified by a point cloud 3D scan of the entire suite which was then imported back into fabrication models which allowed for incredibly accurate tolerances. This project was carried out under the executive leadership of our team during their prior employment and is not directly associated with Bauvik inc.
